Your First Dental Trip to Turkey: A Complete Day-by-Day Guide

Day by day guide for your first dental trip to Turkey including travel and treatment tips

What to Expect When You Travel to Turkey for Dental Treatment

Travelling abroad for dental treatment is a big decision, especially if it is your first time. The process can feel overwhelming when you do not know what to expect — how long will you need to stay? What happens on day one? When can you eat normally? What if something goes wrong?

This day-by-day guide walks you through a typical dental trip to Antalya, Turkey, based on the most common treatment journeys at Persona Smile. Whether you are coming for veneers, implants, crowns, or a full smile makeover, this timeline will help you plan with confidence.

Before You Fly: Preparation (1–2 Weeks Before)

Initial Consultation and Treatment Plan

Before travelling, you will already have had a remote consultation with your dentist. At Persona Smile, this typically involves sending photos and any existing X-rays via our consultation form or WhatsApp. Our clinical team reviews your case and provides a preliminary treatment plan with a cost estimate.

This is an estimate, not a final plan. Your treatment plan will be confirmed after an in-person clinical assessment, including digital scanning and X-rays at the clinic.

Booking Flights and Accommodation

Antalya Airport (AYT) is well connected to most UK and European cities, with direct flights from London, Manchester, Birmingham, Edinburgh, and many other cities. Flight time from the UK is approximately four hours.

Most dental treatments require a stay of 5 to 10 days, depending on the complexity. Veneer or crown treatments typically take 5 to 7 days, while implant cases may require two separate visits with a healing period in between. Our smile packages include hotel accommodation and airport transfers, making logistics simple.

What to Pack

Beyond your usual travel essentials, bring any existing dental records, X-rays, or panoramic scans you have. Pack soft foods for the first few days after treatment — protein shakes, soups, and smoothie ingredients can be helpful. A travel pillow is useful for keeping your head elevated during recovery. Bring loose, comfortable clothing and any regular medications you take.

Day 1: Arrival and First Consultation

Airport Transfer

If you have booked a smile package, your transfer from Antalya Airport to your hotel will be arranged. The drive from the airport to central Antalya takes approximately 30 minutes, depending on your hotel location.

Clinical Assessment

On your first day, you will visit the clinic for a comprehensive assessment. This includes a full-mouth digital scan using an intraoral scanner, panoramic X-ray, and CBCT scan if implants are involved. These images give your dentist a precise picture of your oral health, bone structure, and bite alignment.

Your dentist will examine your teeth, gums, and bite in person and discuss your goals. Based on the clinical findings, your final treatment plan is presented. This is when you confirm the exact treatments, materials, timeline, and cost. Nothing proceeds without your full understanding and consent.

At Persona Smile, our diagnostic technology includes the latest CBCT scanners and digital smile design software, allowing you to visualise your expected results before treatment begins.

Day 2: Treatment Begins

For Veneer and Crown Patients

Tooth preparation takes place on day two. Your dentist will carefully prepare each tooth that will receive a veneer or crown, removing a thin layer of enamel to create space for the restoration. Digital impressions are taken and sent to our in-house laboratory.

Temporary restorations are placed to protect your prepared teeth and allow you to eat and smile normally while your permanent restorations are being crafted. These temporaries also give you a preview of your new smile shape.

For Implant Patients

Implant surgery is performed under local anaesthesia. The procedure is far less painful than most patients expect — comparable to having a tooth extracted. For single implants, the surgery takes 20 to 40 minutes per implant. For full-arch cases like All-on-4, expect two to three hours.

After surgery, you will receive detailed aftercare instructions, prescribed medications including antibiotics and pain relief, and an emergency contact number for the clinic.

Days 3–4: Recovery and Lab Work

While your permanent restorations are being manufactured in our in-house dental laboratory, you have time to rest and explore Antalya. Most patients experience mild discomfort for 24 to 48 hours after preparation or surgery, manageable with standard pain relief.

This is your opportunity to enjoy Antalya’s old town, beaches, and restaurants. Stick to soft foods for the first couple of days, then gradually return to normal eating. Avoid very hot, very cold, or very crunchy foods until your permanent restorations are fitted.

During this time, our laboratory technicians are custom-crafting your restorations. Having the lab in-house means your dentist can walk into the lab to check colour matching, translucency, and fit — a level of quality control that is simply not possible when lab work is outsourced.

Day 5: Try-In and Adjustments

This is one of the most important days. Your permanent restorations are tried in and assessed for fit, colour, shape, and bite alignment. Your dentist will check every detail and make adjustments as needed.

Because our lab is on-site, adjustments can be made within hours rather than days. If a shade needs tweaking or a contact point needs refining, it happens immediately. This is a major advantage of choosing a clinic with in-house manufacturing capabilities.

You will have the chance to look at your new smile in the mirror and provide feedback. Your opinion matters — if something does not look or feel right, this is the time to speak up.

Day 6–7: Final Fitting and Departure

Permanent Bonding

Once you and your dentist are completely satisfied with the restorations, they are permanently bonded. Your dentist will make final bite adjustments and polish everything to perfection. A final set of photographs documents your completed treatment.

Aftercare Briefing

Before you leave, you will receive a comprehensive aftercare pack including written instructions, your dental records, X-rays, and details of all materials used. This information is important for your dentist at home. You will also be given a direct contact for any post-treatment questions.

Read our FAQ section for answers to common aftercare questions.

Flying Home

Flying after dental treatment is generally safe. For veneer and crown patients, there are no restrictions. For implant patients, we recommend waiting at least 24 hours after surgery before flying, though most patients fly on day five or later without issues.

After You Return Home

Schedule a check-up with your regular dentist within two to four weeks of returning home. Share the clinical records provided by Persona Smile so your UK dentist has full visibility of the treatment performed.

Follow your aftercare instructions carefully, particularly regarding oral hygiene, diet, and any prescribed medications. If you have any concerns after returning home, our team is available via WhatsApp, email, or phone. Contact us at any time.

For implant patients who require a second visit for final restorations after the healing period (typically three to six months), we will coordinate your return trip and manage logistics just as smoothly as the first visit.

Treatment Timeline Quick Reference

For veneers and crowns, plan for five to seven days. For single or multiple implants with immediate temporary restorations, plan for five to seven days for the surgical phase. For a full smile makeover combining multiple treatments, plan for seven to ten days. For clear aligners, you typically need two to three days for scanning, fitting, and instruction.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long do I need to stay in Turkey for dental treatment?

Most treatments require five to ten days. Simple procedures like teeth whitening can be done in one to two days, while complex cases involving multiple implants may require a longer stay or a second visit.

Will I be in pain during treatment?

All procedures are performed under local anaesthesia, so you will not feel pain during treatment. Post-treatment discomfort is typically mild and well managed with prescribed pain relief. Most patients describe the experience as far less uncomfortable than they expected.

Can I eat normally during my trip?

You will need to eat soft foods for the first one to two days after treatment. After that, you can gradually return to normal eating. Your temporary restorations allow you to eat comfortably while your permanent ones are being made.

What if I have a problem after returning home?

Persona Smile provides ongoing aftercare support via WhatsApp, email, and phone. We also provide full clinical records so your local dentist can assist if needed. Our guarantee covers the work we perform, and we will coordinate any necessary follow-up.
