What Dental Materials Are Used in Turkey? A Guide to CE-Marked and FDA-Approved Standards

Material Quality Is the Foundation of Lasting Dental Work

When patients research dental treatment abroad, one of the most important questions they ask is: what materials will be used? The materials in your mouth directly affect how your restorations look, how long they last, and how safe they are. Understanding dental material standards helps you make an informed choice.

At Persona Smile, we use exclusively internationally certified materials from leading global manufacturers. This guide explains what those certifications mean and why they matter.

What Does CE Marking Mean?

CE marking (Conformité Européenne) is a certification that indicates a product meets the health, safety, and environmental requirements of the European Union. For dental materials, CE marking means the product has been tested for biocompatibility (safety in contact with human tissue), meets durability and performance standards, has undergone clinical evaluation, complies with manufacturing quality controls, and carries full traceability from manufacture to patient.

Turkey follows the EU Medical Device Regulation framework, which means all dental materials used in licensed clinics must carry CE marking. This is the same standard applied in Germany, France, Sweden, and every other EU member state.

Key Materials Used at Persona Smile

Implants: Straumann BLX and NTA Swiss

Straumann is the world’s most-researched implant brand, headquartered in Basel, Switzerland. The BLX system used at Persona Smile features a unique drill protocol for high primary stability, Roxolid material (a titanium-zirconium alloy) that is stronger than pure titanium, SLActive surface treatment for faster osseointegration, and documented survival rates exceeding 97% at 10 years.

NTA implants are also manufactured in Switzerland, carry full CE certification, and offer excellent clinical performance at a more accessible price point. Both systems are available at Persona SmileStraumann BLX from £700 and NTA Swiss from £355.

Crowns and Veneers: IPS e.max by Ivoclar Vivadent

IPS e.max is the world’s leading lithium disilicate ceramic system, manufactured by Ivoclar Vivadent in Liechtenstein. The e.max system offers exceptional translucency that mimics natural enamel, flexural strength of 400–530 MPa, over 200 million restorations placed worldwide since launch, and extensive published clinical evidence with survival rates above 95% at 10 years.

At Persona Smile, E-max crowns start from £150 and E-max lumineers from £180.

Zirconia: Katana and Premium Systems

Our zirconia restorations use multi-layered zirconia systems including Katana by Kuraray Noritake. Modern multi-layered zirconia features graduated translucency for natural-looking results, flexural strength of 900–1,200 MPa (the strongest dental ceramic available), excellent biocompatibility and plaque resistance, and CAD/CAM precision milling in our in-house lab. Zirconia crowns start from £130 at Persona Smile.

Bonding and Cementing Systems

The adhesive systems used to bond restorations to teeth are just as important as the restorations themselves. We use internationally recognised bonding systems that provide reliable, long-lasting adhesion and are compatible with the specific ceramic materials being used.

How Our In-House Lab Maintains Quality Control

Our in-house dental laboratory manufactures all restorations on-site. This means every material batch is traceable, direct communication between dentist and ceramist ensures design accuracy, same-day adjustments are possible without shipping delays, and quality checks happen at every stage of manufacturing.

The laboratory uses CAD/CAM milling systems and 3D printing technology for precision manufacturing from digital files. This digital workflow eliminates many of the variables that can affect quality in traditional analogue laboratory processes.

How to Verify the Materials Your Clinic Uses

You have the right to know exactly what is being placed in your mouth. Ask any clinic to confirm in writing which specific brands and products they use, provide material certificates or batch numbers after treatment, and explain why they chose a particular material for your case.

You can cross-reference material claims with manufacturers. Straumann, Ivoclar Vivadent, and other major brands maintain lists of authorised partner clinics and can confirm whether a clinic genuinely uses their products.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are the materials used in Turkey the same as those in UK clinics?

When a clinic uses internationally branded materials — Straumann, Ivoclar, Kuraray — the products are identical regardless of where they are used. The same E-max block milled in our Antalya lab is the same product as one milled in a London lab. The difference is not in the material but in the cost of the clinical and laboratory services around it.

What is the difference between CE marking and FDA approval?

CE marking is the European standard; FDA approval is the US standard. Both involve rigorous testing for safety and efficacy, though the specific testing protocols differ. Many premium dental products carry both certifications. For patients from the UK and Europe, CE marking is the relevant standard.

How can I tell if a clinic is using genuine branded materials?

Ask for material certificates, implant passports (for implants), and batch numbers. Genuine products come with traceable documentation. If a clinic cannot provide this, question whether the products are authentic. At Persona Smile, every patient receives full material documentation. Book a consultation to learn more.
